Shaun Dennison draws on his extensive experience in the secondary art market to assist collectors primarily to buy and sell Indigenous art. He also provides advice on creating and maintaining collections that include art of a variety of styles.

About Shaun

I have been involved in the Australian art industry since the 1990s, starting off as a collector and then working with galleries in the early 2000s educating friends and colleagues, and offering First Nations works for sale. In 2004 I established Christie’s Auction House Indigenous Art Department and then was the Indigenous Art Specialist at Mossgreen Auction House from 2007 to 2016. I am currently the expert for Australian First Nations art at Artvisory.

I am very passionate about the art of our First Nations peoples, and an avid believer that the finest of these artworks stand alongside the best art in the world. In addition, I believe that the Australian Indigenous art movement is one of the most significant art movements in Australia, and indeed the world.

What do I offer?

I draw on my experience as both a collector and a specialist in the auction market to offer clients informed and trusted advice.

I have deep knowledge of the Indigenous art movement from the 1990s onwards.  In addition, I keep abreast of the contemporary art market both as a collector and an appreciator of the finest works from around the world.

Provenance

Ensuring you purchase artworks of only the best provenance and highest quality can be challenging for collectors, particularly in relation to Australian First Nations art works.

I only deal in artworks that are sourced from the highest market accepted provenance. This provides buyers the comfort that authenticity of their works will never be doubted.

How can I help you?

If you are looking to create or enhance your collection, I meet with you to understand your objectives, develop a plan for to meet those objectives, and then work with you to execute this plan.  In this instance I charge a service fee per artwork bought (except if I receive a commission from the gallery or if a work is bought from another collector through me). I am always transparent about commercial arrangements.

Even the most passionate of collectors sometimes look to divest works from their collections. If that is where you are at,  I discuss with you how I can best assist – whether that is facilitating a private sale, or placing works into an auction.  For works sold privately by me I charge a commission. Once again, all commercial arrangements are transparent to my clients.

Please get in touch to discuss how I can help you.
